Maria Milstein (Moskou, 1985) werd geboren in een familie van musici. Ze studeerde aan het Conservatorium in Amsterdam bij Ilya Grubert en in London bij David Takeno waar ze de hoogst mogelijke onderscheidingen ontving voor haar Bachelor en Master diplomas. Tussen 2011 en 2014 was Maria Artist in Residence bij de Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in de klas van Augustin Dumay.

 

Maria is winnares van grote internationale prijzen en competities. Ze speelde als soliste met het National Orchestra van België, het Brussels Philharmonic, het Royal Chamber Orchestra van Wallonië, het Musica Viva Orchestra en Amsterdam Sinfonietta. Maria werkte in 2013 samen met het Liege Royal Philharmonic Orchestra voor de opnames van het werk van Saint-Saëns voor viool en orkest (het label Zig-Zag Territories). Op de debuut CD van Maria “Sounds of War”, die werd opgenomen met pianiste Hanna Shybayeva, staan sonates van Poulenc, Janácek en Prokofiev. De CD kwam uit in januari 2015 op Cobra Record en kreeg van De Volkskrant een recensie met 5 sterren.

Maria werkt met dirigenten als Michel Tabachnik, Jean-Jacques Kantorow, Christain Arming, Chistopher Warren-Green, Alexander Rudin, Reinbert de Leeuw en Ivan Meylemans. Als hooglijk gewardeerd kamermusicus speelt zij samen met befaamde collegae zoals Elisabeth Leonskaja, Gary Hoffman, Hannes Minnaar, Philippe Graffin, Liza en Dmitri Ferschtman en Alexander Kniazev.

Samen met de pianist Hannes Minnaar en de cellist Gideon den Herder maakt Maria deel uit van het Van Baerle Trio, een van de meest successvolle ensembles van Nederland. Het Trio kreeg de hoogste prijzen bij de ARD Competition in Munchen en bij de Lyon International Chamber Music Competition en won de Vriendenkrans Competition en de Kersjes Prijs in Nederland. In 2014 deed het Trio de ECHO Rising Stars Tour, waarbij ze optraden in beroemde concertzalen zoals de Musiekverin in Wenen, Cité de la Musique in Parijs, Bozar in Brussel, het Barbican in London en de Philharmonie in Keulen. De debuut CD van het trio, met werken van Saint-Saëns, Loevendie en Ravel, won de Edison Klassiek in 2013. In september 2014 bracht het Trio een tweede CD uit op Challenge Records, met pianotrio’s van Mendelssohn.

Sinds september 2014 doceert Maria aan het Amsterdams Conservatorium.

Maria is genomineerd voor de Grachten Festival Prijs 2015.

Maria speelt op een viool van Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume (Parijs, 1860).

Born into a family of musicians, Maria Milstein (Moscow 1985) studies in Amsterdam Conservatory with Ilya Grubert and in London with David Takeno, receiving the highest possible grades for her Bachelor and Master diplomas. Between 2011 and 2014 Maria is Artist in Residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in the class of Augustin Dumay.

Maria is a prizewinner of major international competitions and awards such as "Città di Brescia" and "Premio Rodolfo Lipizer" in Italy, the ARD Competition in Munich and the Lyon International Chamber Music Competition with the Van Baerle Trio, the Concertgebouw Vriendenkrans Competition and the Kersjes Prize in the Netherlands.

Maria performs extensively in the Netherlands and abroad, and appeared as a soloist with the National Orchestra of Belgium, the Brussels Philharmonic, the Royal Chamber Orchestra of Wallonie, the Musica Viva Orchestra and Amsterdam Sinfonietta. In 2013, Maria collaborates with the Liège Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for the recording of Saint-Saëns works for violin and orchestra ( Zig-Zag Territoires label). Maria's début CD « Sounds of War », recorded with pianist Hanna Shybayeva and featuring Sonatas by Poulenc, Janáček and Prokofiev, is released in January 2015 on Cobra Records; the album already received 5 stars from De Volkskrant.

Maria works with conductors such as Michel Tabachnik, Jean-Jacques Kantorow, Christian Arming, Christopher Warren-Green, Alexander Rudin, Reinbert de Leeuw and Ivan Meylemans; a highly appreciated chamber musician, she plays together with renowned colleagues such as Elisabeth Leonskaja, Gary Hoffman, Hannes Minnaar, Philippe Graffin, Liza and Dmitri Ferschtman and Alexander Kniazev.

Together with pianist Hannes Minnaar and cellist Gideon den Herder Maria forms the Van Baerle Trio, one of Netherlands' most successful ensembles. The Trio received the highest prizes at the ARD Competition in Munich and the Lyon International Chamber Music Competition, and won the Vriendenkrans Competition and the Kersjes Prize in the Netherlands. In 2014 the Trio made the ECHO Rising Stars Tour, which brought them to famous concert halls such as Musikverein in Vienna, Cité de la Musique in Paris, Bozar in Brussels, Barbican in London or the Philharmonie of Cologne. The début CD of the Trio featuring works by Saint-Saëns, Loevendie and Ravel won the Edison Klassiek in 2013. In September 2014 the Trio released a second CD with piano trio's by Mendelssohn on Challenge Records.

Since September 2014 Maria holds a teaching position at the Amsterdam Conservatory.
