Mathieu van Bellen, Hulst 1988, begon op vierjarige leeftijd met viool spelen. Hij studeerde in Sint-Niklaas bij Nico Baltussen, en vervolgde zijn opleiding bij Jan Repko aan het Conservatorium van Amsterdam en Chetham's School of Music in Manchester. Die opleiding werd hem mogelijk gemaakt door een studiebeurs van De VandenEnde Foundation in Amsterdam. In London studeerde hij bij Itzhak Rashkovsky, en in Berlijn aan de Hochschule für Musik bij Ulf Wallin.
Hij volgde masterclasses bij o.a. Ida Haendel, Shlomo Mintz, Pinchas Zukerman, Maxim Vengerov en Bernard Hreenhouse.
Hij was laureaat van o.a. de internationale Yehudi Menuhin Competition en de Wieniawski Competition en in Nederland van het Prinses Christina Concours en het Oskar Back concours.
Hij treedt op als solist en kamermusicus, meestal als lid van het door hem opgerichte The Busch Ensemble.
Sinds 2014 organiseert hij jaarlijks in mei hij het Scaldis Kamermuziek Festival, dat plaatsvindt in Zeeland - Aan De Schelde.
Mathieu bespeelt de ex-Adolf Busch viool J.B, Guadagnini (Turijn 1783), en gebruikt een Fetique boog, beide in bruikleen ter beschikking gesteld door private sponsors.
Mathieu van Bellen, Hulst (1988, Hulst the Netherlands) started studying the violin in Belgium with Nico Baltussen. He continued with Jan Repko, first at the Amsterdam Conservatoire, and at Chethams School of Music in Manchester, for which he was awarded a scholarship by The VandenEnde Foundation. He continued at the Royal College of Music, London with Itzhak Rashkovsky and at the Hochschule fuer Musik, Berlin, with Ulf Wallin. He had masterclasses with Ida Haendel, Shlomo Mintz, Pinchas Zukerman, Maxim Vengerov and Bernard Greenhouse.
Laureate of Yehudi Menuhin Competition, Wieniawski Competition, Prinses Christina Competition and Oskar Back Competition he is also a recipient of MBF, RPS Emily Anderson Prize, Philharmonia Martin Musical Scholarship Fund Awards and Making Music Awards. He was also awarded the Bach Prize and the String Player of the Year 2008 at the Royal College of Music. He has given concerts in Europe, Asia and the USA, playing in major music festivals like Festspiele MV in Germany, and Chamber Music Festivals all over Europe. He has appeared several times on television and radio, and he performed in halls like the Purcell Room at the Southbank Centre, Royal Festival Hall London, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Tel Aviv Opera House, and Megaron in Athens, performing with orchestras such as the National Orchestra of Belgium, Holland Symfonia, Southbank Sinfonia, and Camerata Athena.
Violinist of the Busch Ensemble, a London based piano trio, Mathieu is an active chamber musician, having played chamber music concerts with artists like Shlomo Mintz, Ani Schnarch, Mark Padmore, and Roger Vignoles.
He is the founder and artistic director of the Scaldis Kamermuziek Festival, taking place in the region of Zeeland, The Netherlands.
Mathieu plays on the ex-Adolf Busch J.B. Guadagnini violin (Turin, 1783), and uses a Victor Fetique bow, both on loan to him thanks to private sponsorships, for which he is most grateful.
